Simple Feast raises $12M to fight climate change with plant-based food

AUG 23, 2018

We are pleased to share the announcement of the $12M Series A investment in Copenhagen-based Simple Feast

This Series A funding round is led by Balderton, with participation from 14W in New York. Existing investors Sweet Capital, ByFounders and a group of business angels are reinvesting.Simple Feast was founded in 2015 by repeat entrepreneurs Jakob Jønck and Thomas Ambus.Jakob is the former founder and head of product at Endomondo and later head of international operations for MyFitnessPal until the two companies were acquired by Under Armour. He is a political scientist turned tech entrepreneur after spending some years at McKinsey & Co.Thomas is the former CTO at Endomondo and later Co-Founder and CTO at Vavuud, before becoming co-founder and CTO at Simple Feast. The company delivers sustainably produced food to people’s homes in biodegradable boxes. The meal solution delivers weekly boxes with three prepared plant-based and 100% organic meals ready to serve in 10 minutes. All meals are delivered in sustainable, bio-degradable packaging free of any plastic. The pair started thinking more deeply about Simple Feast when Under Armour acquired Endomondo and MyFitnessPal in the spring of 2015 and got serious about it in 2016. Since founding Endomondo and heading up International Operations for MyFitnessPal, they saw a missing link when trying to move towards a healthy, sustainable diet – an actual product that didn’t compromise on taste, nor convenience, but solved the huge challenges involved with embarking on this journey towards eating plants first and foremost.

“Climate change is real. There is no Planet B and we are facing what is arguably the biggest challenge in human history.”

Jakob Jønck, CEO and cofounder of Simple Feast

Daniel, who is leading the investment from Balderton, said: “What we eat does not only affect our own health, but also the health of the planet. With a global transition towards plant-based food, we believe Simple Feast is uniquely positioned to change the way we eat and create awareness about the impact of our food choices.”
