On behalf of the team at Balderton, I am very excited to announce that Lars Fjeldsoe-Nielsen has joined us as a General Partner.
Lars has led mobile strategy for sector-defining, high-growth technology companies Uber and Dropbox, and joins Balderton to help lead new early-stage investments, and to share his unique experience and insight with our existing portfolio.
Most recently, Lars was based in Uber’s San Francisco headquarters leading their mobile strategy, forging alliances with global telcos in order to build the company’s rider and driver growth. During Lars’ tenure, he saw the company’s footprint surpass 59 countries. Prior to Uber, Lars was an early employee at Dropbox. During his time at the company, the user base grew from a few million to hundreds of millions of users around the world.
Not only is Lars an admirable strategist, he is also a proven inventor – you’re probably reaping the benefits of his work right now! While at Dropbox, Lars co-invented and patented a new way of deeply integrating services with handset manufacturers and mobile operators. This model is now used by companies of all sizes, from startups to multinationals. In the past decade, more than a billion mobile handsets have shipped with integrated mobile services as a result of this work.
On top of this impressive resume, Lars has also advised Whatsapp, and worked with Voicesignal, Skyhook Wireless, Ness Technologies and T9 Tegic – all of which were acquired.
Lars has influenced the way that some of the most influential companies in the world approach their mobile strategy and operational decision-making. He also shares our vision that some of the very best global technology businesses are being born in Europe right now.
We are delighted that Lars has joined our partnership to share his unparalleled expertise and enthusiastic commitment with our entrepreneurs. I’m sure he will help us uncover, back and support the very best founders in the region
