Six years ago I was sitting reading the papers in the May sunshine in Buckinghamshire. I’d just left my startup, Firefly Tonics, and was taking the summer off to think, dream, travel, figure out what next.

My phone rings.
A head-hunter.
“Have you heard of Balderton Capital?”
