Location – London, Kings Cross
The successful candidate will act as one of two Legal Counsel for Balderton. This will involve advising on a wide range of legal issues relating to day-to-day operational activities for the business, including execution of investments (both initial rounds and follow-ons), exits, fund administration, regulatory issues and general matters. Additionally, the candidate will be required to give legal advice to/relating to portfolio companies on a wide range of matters including venture debt and employee options.
-Qualified Lawyer in the UK or another common-law jurisdiction.
-Between 6 to 10 years’ PQE with a corporate transactional background. Lower PQE will be considered with relevant experience.
-The ideal candidate will have experience working at a magic circle, top silver circle, top US law firm or a law firm specialising in venture capital transactions and will have worked on a variety of transactions with a tech focus.
-Previous in-house experience, whether a secondment or a full-time position is beneficial.
-Ideally specific experience of advising on venture capital transactions, but at a minimum the candidate should have experience of private equity transactions and private company M&A as well as giving general advice to private companies on their day-to-day corporate matters.
-Experience of transactions in European jurisdictions and the US is essential.
-Good negotiation and influencing skills.
-Strong numeracy and Microsoft Excel experience is essential.
-Ability to work in a challenging, fast-paced environment and to adapt to new situations as they arise.
-Demonstrates enthusiasm for becoming involved in a business with a strong commitment to customer service and governance.
-Interest in tech/media & start-ups.
-Excellent written and oral communications skills in English.
-Fluency in major European languages is preferable but not essential.
