The Hut runs e-commerce operations for major retailers, as well as operating its own sites such as thehut.com and zavvi.com. This multi-site marketing approach, combined with aggressive pricing afforded by shared buying, IT and distribution costs, have enabled The Hut to grow to be the UK’s 3rd largest online entertainment retailer in only 5 years. The Hut are now expanding in Europe and into adjacent categories of fast moving consumer durables, to scale rapidly into a multi-site, multi-category e-commerce leader.
Matthew founded The Hut Group in 2004 and moved full-time into the business in 2006.
He qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Arthur Andersen and spent 8 years as Chief Financial Officer of 20:20, the distribution division of The Caudwell Group, revenues increased from £70m to £1.5bn.
Matthew also led the £365m sale of 20:20 to private equity in 2006, before moving full-time to The Hut Group.
