Role Description: - 

 
You will be part of the public face of Balderton, meeting entrepreneurs and identifying the most promising businesses. The role will vary hugely week by week and will be influenced by you. You can expect the role to divide roughly into: 
 
50% finding new investments for Balderton
  • Attending industry events, meeting interesting entrepreneurs
  • Evaluating inbound business plans and meeting with the entrepreneurs
  • Building and leveraging your personal network for dealflow
  • Maintaining a strong presence on social media
  • Keeping up to speed with the hottest developments in early stage TMT: through twitter, industry blogs, press etc.
  • Key skills: Outgoing, insightful, good listener, good reader of people 

 25% evaluation of new investments 

  • Rapid initial screening of businesses - do they have $B potential
  • More detailed analysis / due diligence as we move closer to a deal, including market and competitive analysis, customer references, financial modelling 
  • Key skills: Pattern recognition, Making the complex simple, comfort with numbers, reaching conclusions quickly based on limited information. 
25% Portfolio / Balderton 
  • Supporting portfolio companies on specific projects and further fundraises
  • Experience sharing across the portfolio, including annual CEO conference
  • Analysis of portfolio and preparing presentations for LP (investor) meetings
  • Key skills here include grasping business issues, ability to multitask 

 

The expectation is the role will be for a 2 year period. Previous Associates have moved on to start their own ventures, join high growth tech companies & to other investment roles, and include the founders of LYST and Covetique.

 

Preferred Candidate
 
Passion for tech/media & startups, demonstrated by social media presence, regular reading, conferences attended
2+ years of Tier-1 strategy consulting, private equity, internal strategy consulting or similar experience 
Experience of one or both of:
Entrepreneurial / startup experience.
Business development, strategy or product at a leading internet / software company.
Excellent Degree from Top-Tier university.  
MBA helpful but not required.
French or German speaker preferred. 
We are recruiting immediately but some flexibility on start date.
