We invest in innovative companies which aim to become significant enterprises on a global scale.
Investment size
Balderton’s investments range in size from as little as US$100,000 to in excess of US$50m. However, our typical initial investment in a business is between US$1m and US$15m; and with the ability to invest again in the future, on average we invest US$15m over the lifecycle of a company.
Investment stage
We aim to be the first money in. We typically invest in the early stages of our companies, and continue to support them throughout the various stages of their life. We always invest with an eye on the longer term, inviting the ideas of entrepreneurs with a similar perspective.
We are also opportunistic about investing in later stage rounds of financing for more mature businesses, if we believe we can provide value and help them scale effectively.
Areas of focus
Balderton invests in innovative companies in many different sectors, including enterprise software and services, communications and security, semiconductors, mobile computing, consumer services, plus media and financial services.
We invest primarily in European-based companies. However, we have invested also in US and Asia based companies and will continue to be opportunistic about investing abroad.
Since 2000, Balderton has invested in over 80 companies across a wide variety of sectors and geographies, in Europe, the US and Asia.
